Professorship Call for Applications The Division of Environmental Research,
EcoTopia Science Institute, Nagoya University, Japan

The Division of Nanomaterials Science in the EcoTopia Science Institute of Nagoya University invites applications for a faculty position at the Full Professor level.  The preferred applicant will broaden further research in the Division.
In order to develop environmentally friendly materials, the Division’s projects cover various fields, including research clarifying the relationship between the function and structure of nanomaterials, biomimetic synthesis, synthetic methods for lowering impact on the environment, and material characterization.  The members of the Division are investigating a wide range of materials, such as inorganics, organics, their nanocomposites, and biomaterials.  
The Institute encourages all qualified candidates to apply.  We are recruiting faculty members who are interested in exploring novel research areas based upon the above-mentioned principles.  The Institute promotes interdisciplinary researches, and collaborates with scholars in other academic fields within Nagoya University and beyond.  The preferred applicant will contribute to this practice.  Each applicant should propose his or her own sub-project.  The employment system in the Institute is flexible, so as to meet the needs and research status of the current times that the faculty members are employed on the basis of a requesting period.  The selected applicant will perform his or her sub-project within the period, and is also expected to work on one of the interdisciplinary projects in the Institute.

Research Project Theme
"The development of environment-compatible functional material by a low-impact process on the environment"

Sustainable societies require environmentally friendly materials that are energy-efficient, safe, secured, and long-lasting.  The fabrication processes should have a low impact on the environment and be cost-efficient, and proceed at room temperature and atmospheric pressure.  In order to achieve this requirement, the present project promotes research that contributes to add high value functions of materials by low-impact processes on the environment.  In particular, the research project will modify the surface of energy-saving and long-lasting lightweight materials via synthesis of corrosion-resistant and biocompatible functional nanomaterials by an electrochemical method for future industrial application.  Then, the development of environmentally compatible material will be based on academic investigation.Professorship Call for Applicants

Number positions: One full professor position is available for the research project
Position period: 5 to 10 years(7years as standard)
Requirements: 1) Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required.
2) Research record accords with the content of the research project.
3) Ability of supervising graduate course students in the Graduate School of Engineering with faculty members of the related department.
Available date: As early as possible after April 1, 2012
Application documents: 1) A single title of the sub-project which applicant will propose and a statement of research plan which will be developed with the proposing sub-project (2000 words)
2) Requesting period for the position
3) Curricula vita including e-mail address; formatting is arbitrary but a photo of applicant should be pasted
4) Publication list categorized by refereed journal papers, review papers, books, patents etc; name of applicant should be underlined
5) Reprints of not more than five major papers; these papers should be marked by * in the publication list
6) Outline of previous researches(2000 words)
7) Other record on professional activities (awards, research funds(specify as principal investigator or not as well as amounts in Japanese yen), invited lectures)
8) Department or course names in the Graduate School of Engineering where applicant can contribute to education; if applicant can select more than one department or course, specify an order of selections, and for detail of the School, see the web page by http://www.engg.nagoya-u.ac.jp. 9) One or two names, addresses and e-mail list of the candidates of referees who can qualify the applicant, if any
